Secondary Injection Unit

A plug-on injection unit to an existing injection molding machine used for multicolor or multicomponent molding is called Secondary Injection Unit.
It is equipped with its own controller and is flexible in installation. It can be mounted on top or on non-operator side of a tool. The Secondary Injection Unit can inject into the parting line as cold runner system or into a hot runner system.

Set-up

An important part of a unit cost calculation is the process of setting up an injection mold.
Set-up is the preparation of the injection molding machine for the production of a specific molded part.
This includes setting up the molds, adjusting the machine parameters and checking the production processes.
The aim is to ensure smooth production. Efficient set-up is therefore crucial in order to maximize productivity and ensure the quality of the parts produced.

Shear Rate

The flow rate of the melt varies over the wall thickness during filling.
Shear forces arise between the layers of different velocities.
This way a thought volume element is deformed (diamond in the picture).
The time dependent change of the angle (gamma) is called shear rate.
High shear rates lead to shear heating, molecular chains deform and might break.
The quality of the product is reduced.

Temperature

The injection molding process highly depends on temperature.
If the molten plastic enters the cavity the temperature is high and sequentially decreasing overtime.
The reduction in temperature is based on the given cooling layout of the mold and the process parameters set.
In simulation the temperature result shows temperature distribution of the part and mold at current instant.
It can help to evaluate temperature related aspects of the process, for instance, hot spot.
