An important part of a unit cost calculation is the process of setting up an injection mold.
Set-up is the preparation of the injection molding machine for the production of a specific molded part.
This includes setting up the molds, adjusting the machine parameters and checking the production processes.
The aim is to ensure smooth production. Efficient set-up is therefore crucial in order to maximize productivity and ensure the quality of the parts produced.

The flow rate of the melt varies over the wall thickness during filling.
Shear forces arise between the layers of different velocities.
This way a thought volume element is deformed (diamond in the picture).
The time dependent change of the angle (gamma) is called shear rate.
High shear rates lead to shear heating, molecular chains deform and might break.
The quality of the product is reduced.

The injection molding process highly depends on temperature.
If the molten plastic enters the cavity the temperature is high and sequentially decreasing overtime.
The reduction in temperature is based on the given cooling layout of the mold and the process parameters set.
In simulation the temperature result shows temperature distribution of the part and mold at current instant.
It can help to evaluate temperature related aspects of the process, for instance, hot spot.

Granulate for the production of plastic parts is usually fed to the injection molding machine via a permanently installed hopper. If the material is changed frequently or if small quantities of material are processed, the fixed hopper is unsuitable for handling.
In order to apply e.g. cleaning granulate safely and without spillage at the injection molding machine, a universal hopper is therefore ideally used. This has a magnetic base and can be quickly replaced on the machine. With an integrated closing slide, an exact and economical dosage of the respective material is made possible. This means that a universal funnel is also ideal for sampling or for processing very small quantities.

In the injection mold, in general, every cooling circuit stays at one temperature over the complete cycle.
For parts with a high demand on surface quality it is important that the melt reproduces the cavity perfectly.
A variotherm process is used to achieve this.
Hereby one or more cooling channels will be processed with a lot higher temperature during filling phase (A in the picture below).
As this results in a longer cycle time, the coolant temperature is decreased during cooling phase (B in the picture below) to speed up the process.
The phase of mold movement (C in the picture below) is used to heat up the coolant of the specific circuits to the higher temperature for the next cycle.
