Residual Cooling Time

The injection mold is usually temperated during the complete cycle.
The time from the end of packing phase until ejection is called residual cooling time (blue line in the time-pressure diagram below).
During this time the cooling of the part takes place solely.

Ring Gate

With this gate design, the plastic melt is introduced circumferentially or almost circumferentially into a rotationally symmetrical area of the molded part. The resulting ring-shaped melt feed provides a uniform distribution of the flow front and can reduce weld lines, one-sided orientation, and uneven shrinkage. The ring gate is often used for sleeve-, tube-, cup-, or disc-shaped injection molded parts where symmetrical filling and low warpage are important. Its design influences pressure loss, packing pressure transmission, demolding behavior, and subsequent gate separation from the part. Depending on the mold concept, gate removal may be performed mechanically, by break-off, or by means of a designed separation edge.

Secondary Injection Unit

A plug-on injection unit to an existing injection molding machine used for multicolor or multicomponent molding is called Secondary Injection Unit.
It is equipped with its own controller and is flexible in installation. It can be mounted on top or on non-operator side of a tool. The Secondary Injection Unit can inject into the parting line as cold runner system or into a hot runner system.

Set-up

An important part of a unit cost calculation is the process of setting up an injection mold.
Set-up is the preparation of the injection molding machine for the production of a specific molded part.
This includes setting up the molds, adjusting the machine parameters and checking the production processes.
