The lines for data transmission laid in a building are grouped together at central locations.
The cable ends are collected in a device like a distribution box – the so called patch panel.
The cables are connected on the back of the patch panel.
There are color-coded clamps into which cable ends of the Cat standard can usually be pressed in.
On the front side, there is a RJ45 socket for each of the data cables.
The RJ45 sockets are used to connect the incoming data cables to devices such as switches or other patch panels.
This makes it easy to create flexible assignments between end devices within networks.
Since patch panels are often installed in server racks, the size of the panels is usually specified in inches and HE.
